Felicia plays Yoyo Guo Yao Yao, a star wannabe who wants to take part in every idol contest avaliable. Her father (played by Zhu Houren) gives her money whenever she wants, so her mother (played by Xiang Yun) gets worried that she is spending too much money and wants her to get a job. In order to get her to find a job, they lie that their comic book shop is losing alot of money and that they need to sell the business or the house or something.
Her brother Bobo Guo Bao Bao (played by Campus Superstar winner – Ng Chee Yang), is a blur student who is weak in his studies and has tuition everyday of the week. He managed to switch from NA stream to Express and is nicknamed ‘Hamster’. Because of his family’s ‘financial situation’, he faints in school because he didn’t dare spend any money to eat.
The whole family rushes down to the school to see Bao Bao. Yoyo overhears the principal (Yan Bingliang) and the vice-principal (Patricia Mok) talking about a relief chinese teacher, and immediately wants the job. As this school is her alma mater, the principal remembers her and gives her a chance.
She meets the school’s weird teachers and also the sports teacher, Lin Haifeng. She had met Haifeng a few days ago and blames him for her failed audition because he accidentally spilled laksa on her shirt and script before the audition. As she is allergic to chilli, she was itching when it came to audition time. He accidentally throws a basketball and it hits her eye, causing it to bruise. Thus, she treats him as an enemy.
She is assigned to teach class 4C, which is a NA stream class. The whole class has no interest in learning Chinese, and they also have alot of problems.
There is Situ Bi (Xiao Li Yuan) who has a bad record. Once a top student, he turned defiant and uninterested in his studies after his mother died, 2 years ago. Then there’s Lin En-na (Chen Chu Xian) who is supposedly a rich girl. Yao Yao later finds out that she is from a poor family, and that she gets her money from working as a KTV lounge hostess.
Yao Yao also finds out that the students have 2 idols – Lin Youwei, and Ke Xinyu, who are both in class 4A. Youwei (Renfred Ng) is the girls idol, and nicknamed ‘Superman’. He is good at his studies, and is the captain of the basketball team. He also plays the violin and draws. Later on, he will get into an accident which lands him in a wheelchair, and his basketball days over. Ke Xinyu (Teresa Tseng) is the boys idol. She plays the piano, is the leader of the choir, has a beautiful voice, and is kind-hearted. However, she suffers from a heart disease, which threatens to take her life away anytime.
Shaun Chen plays her boyfriend, Ma Zikang. He is very supportive of her dreams and his only hope is for her to marry him. Adam Chen plays Lin Haifeng, a PE teacher in a school. He is in charge of the school’s basketball team. THe students call him ‘Madman’, for he is very strict. His cousin, Guan Yulin (Ng Hui) is in love with him and follows and pesters him all the time. She also works in the school. Patricia Mok is Diana Shaw, vice-principal. The students call her ‘Dinosaur’ as she is very fierce, and when you read Diana Shaw, it sounds the same. Lin Meijiao is Haifeng’s mother, while real life couple Zheng Ge Ping and Hong Hui Fang play Xinyu’s parents. Huang Shinan is Situ Bi’s alcholic father.
Wu Si Jia plays Liu Xishi, a tomboy who is in love with Youwei. Huang Chaoqun, Adriano Huang and Alejandro Hou play ‘The Three Musketeers’- Shi Wuyuan (15 dollars), Bai Muguang (White Papaya – Bai Mugua) and Liang Zhiji (Two chickens).
I LOVE THIS SHOW! Haha. It is very lively, and not a moment is boring. Felicia Chin as Guo Yao Yao is like a big kid. She plays pranks on her students and enjoys every moment of it.
Felicia does well in her first main role, and she sheds her girl-next-door personality for a rather spoilt child who is the apple of her parents’ eyes. She brings so much life to the show, and her wonderful portrayal of Guo Yao Yao will make you take a second look at her.
In general, the show is well thought out, and has rather cool stunts (Adam Chen and his bicycle in the first episode! WOW). What sounds a little ‘Xiao Hai Bu Ben-ish’ is the ‘lan ping guo’ comments and all. But well… it reflects reality.
Congrats to the Campus Superstars for getting 20 episodes of 1 hour primetime exposure! (Those from Project Superstar who acted in Dreamchasers only got 13 episodes of 1/2 hour at an 8pm slot on Ch U. But they did release albums.) Our Campus Superstars sing the songs of the drama- with Zhiyang, Teresa, Renfred and Geraldine singing the theme song. Teresa and Zhiyang have a few duets which have been played as ending songs. There is also a song sung by Felicia!
