Starting on the 5th of May 2008, at 9pm on Channel 8, this romantic drama focuses on fate and choices.
Stars: Christopher Lee as Li Junjie, Elvin Ng as Liu Zhiyuan, Jesseca Liu as Liu Zhiling, Jeanette Aw as Chen Xiaorou, Zzen Chang as Wang Tianbao, Dawn Yeoh as Wang Feifei, Julian Hee as Zhang Nan aka Zhanglang, Hong Guorui as Li Gang, Li Yin Zhu as Ming Zhu, Lin Meijiao as Zhu Li Li aka Wang Shimu,
This drama reunites the main cast of “The Peak”- Christopher Lee, Elvin Ng, Jeanette Aw and Dawn Yeoh, with Lin Meijiao, excluding Qi Yuwu – and with Jesseca Liu and Zzen Chang co-starring.
The storyline is interesting — other than the normal love-triangles, rectangles which romantic themed dramas feature, it focuses on the choices which change your fate. The twist in this drama is difficult to imagine but its cool – time travel!
Love connections:
Dawn likes Zzen, who grew up wanting to marry Jesseca, and his love rival is gangster played by Julian, but Jesseca likes Christopher, and he and Elvin, who is Jesseca’s brother, fall for Jeanette.
Junjie (Christopher Lee), Zhiyuan (Elvin Ng), Zhiling (Jesseca Liu) and Tianbao (Zzen) grew up together in Geylang. When they were young, the 3 boys decided to become sworn brothers, and shouted their dreams.
Junjie wanted to be an architect, and build the most beautiful building in Geylang. He is now an architecture undergrad.
Zhiyuan wanted to become a policeman to uphold justice. He is now a policeman.
Tianbao wanted to marry Zhiling when he grew up. Now a bookie, he still dreams of marrying Zhiling.
Zhiling runs a bakery with her grandmother, and is in love with Junjie. She tries hard to mend the strained relationship between him and his father. Junjie and his father are not on talking terms, ever since his mother left years ago…
Tianbao has many encounters with Zhang Nan, a gangster in the area. It turns out that the only girl Zhang Nan loves is Zhiling, and he has been sending her gifts anonymously, and this gets Tianbao very irritated.
Fate threatens to break the friendship between Junjie and Zhiyuan because they fall for the same girl – Xiaorou. While Xiaorou only treats Zhiyuan as a substitute for her dead boyfriend, who resembles him (isn’t there always one of those?), she is unsure of her feelings for Junjie, as she has not been able to forget the past.
Tragedy strikes when Zhang Nan kidnaps his beloved Zhiling. She phones Junjie for help, but he was in the midst of stopping Xiaorou from leaving and didn’t hear the call. Zhiling falls off the building and dies.
Junjie feels guilty, especially when his 2 best friends blame him for not answering her call, thus causing her death. Upon returning to this “wishing pool” where Zhiling frequently brought him whenever he was unhappy and missing his mother, he makes a wish, and suddenly, Zhiling appears in front of him. He follows her… and the time travel begins!
He is returned to the day when she died. Trying to right the wrong, he saves her from Zhang Nan, but that does not solve all the problems. He forces himself to be with her to make her happy, when he still loves Xiaorou. On their wedding day (i think so…), she persuades him to go and look for the one he loves. He goes after Xiaorou, and Zhiling is again kidnapped by Zhang Nan. Junjie looks for Xiaorou, who ends up getting knocked down by a car, saving Junjie.
Then it gets confusing. Zhiling takes a picture with Tianbao, which look like a wedding portrait. There’s an Indian wedding ceremony between Xiaorou and Zhiyuan…
OK. I FIGURED THIS OUT FROM THE PREVIEW AND THE WHEN THE THEME SONG PLAYS. I DON’T THINK IT’S 100% ACCURATE.
WHAT I THINK
There’s a very interesting concept going on here, with fate, choices and second chances. It definitely is not a simple love story like “Love @ 0`C”.
Ok. So we have an interesting concept and storyline, a great cast – Chris, Elvin, 3 princesses – Jeanette, Jesseca and Dawn (in a bad girl role) – and veterans Lin Meijiao & Li Yinzhu who always add an extra touch to complete the show.
It’s promising!! :) I look forward to a great show!
The theme song 空缺 (Kong Que) by 伍家辉 (Wu Jia Hui).
